Clinical aspects and diagnostic of bronchiectasis
Prof. Franziska Trudzinski
Germany
Bronchiectasis has multiple causes and the diagnosis of clinically significant disease requires both clinical and radiological criteria. To improve patient management, certain patient groups may benefit from further diagnostic investigations.

Bronchiectasis: State of the art
Dr. Eva Polverino
Spain
An exploration of the heterogeneity of bronchiectasis. Inflammation and systemic infection are key drivers of the disease and personalized therapies that target immune dysfunction may improve patient outcomes.

Bronchiectasis and exacerbations in COPD
Dr Marc Miravitlles
Spain
There appears to be a high prevalence of bronchiectasis in patients with COPD, particularly in severe cases. An improved understanding of the relationship between these diseases may have important diagnostic and therapeutic implications.

Same but different? Bronchiectasis in AATD
Prof. Alice Turner
UK
An overview of bronchiectasis in patients with AATD compared to patients with COPD. Data from the EARCO Registry provide key insights into the heterogeneity of bronchiectasis phenotypes. Further work is required to understand the role of the microbiome and bacterial colonization in AATD.

Bronchiectasis and exacerbations in IPF
Prof. Luca Richeldi
Italy
The interpretation of CT imaging is important for the diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression of IPF and rare lung diseases. Unlike in COPD and AATD, traction bronchiectasis is caused by a distortion of the lung’s architecture. They are a key feature of IPF. Acute exacerbations of IPF are detrimental events and the best approach is prevention by reducing overall disease progression.
